English Pronunciation: Four Common Mistakes

Can you distinguish between the words walk and work? When you say the word main, does it sound like the word men? Your pronunciation is critical to your success in spoken English because it determines whether or not people can understand you. To improve your pronunciation, try recording yourself on a smartphone or computer. Listen to the recording of your speech, and then compare it to the speech of a native English speaker. Pay attention to the differences you hear and try to correct them.

Watch this video about four commonly confused words so that you can avoid these mistakes.

Stress & Syllables

Mastering English pronunciation can be difficult. It takes time, practice, and attention to detail. Don't be afraid to make mistakes, and don't give up! As you seek to improve your pronunciation, it is a good idea to learn how stress affects the rhythm and intonation of spoken English. English is a very rhythmic language, and if you can learn how to properly stress syllables, you will greatly improve your chances of being understood. Watch this video to learn the basics about stress in the English language.
